While they're sleeping

Both my boys are sleeping.  This doesn't happen all that often, at least not for any length of time.  Usually I come downstairs from putting Will down for his nap to find Jake awake and hungry.  And of course he's ready to share some quality time with Mommy after that.  Which is nice now that he's attentive and holds eye contact and smiles at me.  But it does use up all productive Will-free time I have in the day.  Because when Will is awake, he's kind of an all-consuming force of nature who spends a majority of the day finding new ways either to maim himself or to destroy the house.  He usually manages to do both every single day, despite my best efforts to prevent it.  I guess this is how life is for a mother of sons.  I better just get used to it.  Anyway, so today I'm using nap time to blog.  I should be ordering Christmas presents or baking cookies . . . but I've kind of resolved myself to the fact that we are going to get a great big "F" when it comes to Christmassy accomplishments this year.  Only nine days left and we don't have a tree, not a single present is wrapped, I only ordered Christmas cards YESTERDAY, half the gifts aren't even purchased yet, and our house looks like a black hole at night with its lack of Christmas light cheer.  In other words, we suck.  Though I'm not sure my husband even cares.  Long days at work and a new iPad to play with when he comes home have kind of demolished any motivation he might have had to make things Christmassy.  And quite simply, I just can't do it all myself.  Anyway, so I'm blogging.

Yesterday Will and I went out and retrieved his Little Tikes Cosy Coup from the backyard and brought it into our tiny garage.  I cleared him as big a space as I could manage so he would be able to play with it in there, out of the freezing cold wind.  It was too dirty (I thought at the time) to let him have inside.  So, I'm busy pushing around boxes while he sits quietly in his little car staring up at the shelf that runs along the top of the garage.  I don't question it, I'm just grateful for the peace.  But then, he gets out of his car, holds up his little hand, points his little finger, and says "Uhhhhh."  "Uhhhhhhhhh!"  In Will speak this means, "I need help!"  So I go over to see what he's pointing at and to my dismay I discover that he's noticed one of his Christmas presents that we've hidden up there.  And he wants it.  I mean, seriously.  This kid NEVER looks up.  Never.  He walked into a DOOR the other day because he was looking down at what his feet were doing.  I felt so SAFE hiding it up there!  But he SAW it!  And he wanted it SO BAD!  I ignored him and kept working, pretending the big toy truck wasn't up there taunting his little boy desires, hoping he'd let it go.  But he stood there, begging me to help him, looking around presumably for a way to climb up there himself to get it.  He was desperate!  It made me feel so bad.  I did not cave, however.  I just ignored his protestations, grabbed him and took him inside.  Out of sight, out of mind.  I did, however clean up his little car and bring it inside.   Because the garage is now off limits .  At least until Christmas.  Oh well.  At least I know we did a good job buying presents!

Jake had his one month well-visit this past weekend, when he was already 6 weeks old.  We were out of town and had to postpone it a bit.  Anyway, so he's healthy and perfect, but seriously huge!  He's already 13 lbs 11 ozs.  For real.  98% for weight.  I don't remember off the top of my head his height, but it was about average (though I'm hard pressed to believe it since he barely fits in 3 month onesies, and I'm not sure the nurse actually extended his legs fully).  His head circumference is in the upper 90% as expected, just like his brother.  We are already in size 2 diapers.  He's growing up so fast!  I keep having to remind myself that he's still just little because his size is so misleading. 

It is so exciting to watch him develope and change.  He already looks so different from those early days!

That big open mouth smile!  This kid is going to be fun.  I just know it. 

I got the Bumbo seat out the other day, though I don't think Jake has the neck stability quite yet.  However, don't worry that it is going to waste. 

Getting in is much easier than getting out, apparently.

You had both Dad and I laughing till we cried reading about Will and his Christmas present in the garage!! We could really envision the scene.
